Temporal Waves Temporal Waves is a new project from renowned Canadian tabla player Shawn Mativetsky, transporting the tabla into a rich electronic sound world. One glance at the dystopian imagery and Atari-era typefaces of its Sarper Baran-designed sleeve, and one knows that this is quite the departure. On this self-titled debut of his new moniker, Shawn’s tabla is bathed in the neon glow of analog synthesizers, the woozy warp of hand-manipulated tapes, and the electric patter of drum machines. Spanning crepuscular murk to widescreen elegies, Temporal Waves is an excursion deep into aural science fiction. Ominous arpeggiations swoop in like robotic birds of prey, as robust sawtooth chords trace a dim, smoggy horizon. And as Omnichord trickles into artificial landscapes, tabla punctuates the scenery. Temporal Waves’ orientation toward yesterday's futuristic sounds certainly isn't superficial anemoia, it isn't even unadulterated nostalgia. Grounded in lived experience, the gravitation toward these sonorities and images connects to the underlying themes of the album on a fundamental level. The fascination with antiquated machinery expresses a longing for the more innocent futures depicted in 1980s popular culture, a stark contrast to the nihilistic question marks of today’s uncertain forecasts. The record quietly outlines a redemptive arc, moving from the grim and very real foreboding of impending climate apocalypse and accelerationist capitalism to a more hopeful space where humanity discovers a more symbiotic relationship between nature and technology. Featuring production and performance contributions from Jace Lasek of the Besnard Lakes, the album was mastered by respected synthwave denizen, Jeppe Hasseriis (AKA Dynatron). Content Requirements - Theme: All submitted content must be 80s, 90s, or retro futuristic in nature. We celebrate nostalgia and the futuristic visions inspired by these eras. - Prohibited Content: We will not accept any submissions that include political messaging, commentary on current world events, or any content that does not align with our thematic focus. 2. Rights and Ownership - Content Ownership: Creators retain 100% ownership of their submitted content. You grant MCTV a non-exclusive, worldwide license to display, distribute, and promote your content on our platform. - Removal of Content: Creators can request the removal of their content from MCTV at any time by contacting us at iwantmctv@gmail.com. We will process removal requests within 30 days. 3. Submission Process - Submission Methods: Videos can be submitted via YouTube or Vimeo links, or by emailing a downloadable link to iwantmctv@gmail.com. - Unlimited Submissions: There is no limit to the number of video submissions per creator. We encourage you to submit as much content as you wish. 4. Content Use and Revenue Sharing - Non-Commercial Use: Until ad integration is in place, MCTV will not generate revenue from your content. Once ad integration begins, revenue will be shared with content creators as per the terms set out in our Revenue Sharing Agreement. - Revenue Sharing: MCTV is committed to offering competitive revenue sharing terms. Creators will receive 90% of ad revenue generated from their content, with MCTV retaining 10%. 5. Community Standards - Respectful Content: All content must adhere to community standards. We do not tolerate hate speech, explicit content, or any material that could be deemed offensive or inappropriate. 6. Amendments - Changes to Terms: MCTV reserves the right to amend these terms and conditions at any time. Creators will be notified of any changes, and continued use of the platform implies acceptance of the new terms. This 2-3 hour long live broadcast features some of the best offerings in Synthwave and Electronic music today, but also gives room for new music submissions, music talk, interviews, RetroSynth showcase songs, label announcements and of course the fan favorite, The Vinyl Cut. The Vinyl Cut is a special section of the show in which Dan plays a selection of vinyl records on the show. They can range from one song to an entire side of an album. It is a great way to showcase the glory of vinyl, while at the same time promoting the artist featured on the vinyl, and if still available, help to sell the vinyl record itself.
